Programs and Services
“Simply because a person has a mental illness, that doesn’t have to define what their life is like.” –Garry Hammond, president and CEO, Family Guidance Center
Mental illness is a disease that’s diagnosable and manageable. In fact, mental illnesses like depression, anxiety disorder, ADHD or bipolar disorder are types of medical illness – similar to other chronic physical conditions such as high blood pressure or heart disease – that require ongoing professional treatment.
Through Family Guidance’s innovative, professional programs and services, thousands of local families have found ways to manage their diagnosis and return to productive, high-quality living. We invite you to learn more about our programs and services today.
Adult Mental Health:
At Family Guidance, we believe a diagnosis doesn’t define what a person’s life will become – and we offer psychiatric services, case management, an on-site pharmacy and counseling from a knowledgeable, experienced team who cares about each person as an individual. Our on-site pharmacy is a separate entity offered through Genoa Healthcare, and is available to those who wish to use the service by choice. Family Guidance provides treatment for a range of mental illnesses like depression, post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders and bipolar disorder. We focus on helping people learn new ways to lead successful, productive lives.
Children/Youth Services:
No other regional resource for mental illness offers the array of services, ability and expertise of Family Guidance Center. Children with diagnoses such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression or mood disorders can find the help and support they need to be successful at school, plan a vibrant future and remain in their homes. Multiple levels of support are also offered to families living with a child who has an emotional or behavioral disorder, including programs that draw upon the experience of families who have been down a similar journey.
Addiction Treatment Services:
Addiction is a disease of the brain that affects people from all walks of life and all social classes. Family Guidance strives to help lead people toward lifestyle changes that will enable a return to quality of life, offering both inpatient and outpatient programs alongside a social detoxification program. A key emphasis of the Addiction Treatment Services program is learning new and healthy ways to manage addiction triggers for long-term success, and counseling and therapies are offered on an innovative, flexible schedule.
Access Crisis Intervention:
Family Guidance manages a 24-hour crisis hotline to connect people in need to services in the community. When necessary, counselors provide immediate response. For face-to-face interventions, Family Guidance team members can arrive within the hour.
Family Planning Clinic:
Reproductive health for women and men is a key part of overall health and wellness. The Family Planning Clinic offers a dedicated, professional staff and convenient hours for consumers. Services include annual exams, choices in contraceptive care, pregnancy testing, STD screenings and life-saving educational resources.
Health Care Homes: “Helping people live longer, healthier lives.”
Family Guidance Center is a national leader in providing care from the Health Care Homes model, which integrates primary, mental health and specialty care. Consumers who are eligible for the Health Care Homes program receive care from a whole-health perspective, resulting in reduced emergency room visits, medical expenses and living a longer, healthier life. Services are provided from a team that includes physicians, nurse care managers, mental health professionals and community support workers.
Foundations Illness Management and Recovery (IMR):
In 2012, Family Guidance Center launched the Foundations IMR program, designed to help consumers enhance life skills and social skills as they are working through recovery and management of chronic, persistent mental illness. The overall mission is to help the participants learn the skills they need to successfully reach their life goals – such as nutrition, fitness, medication management, budgeting or social skills. As the Foundations name implies, it all starts right where the individual is in terms of skills, and moves forward from there.
